Discover Heritage, Textiles, and Fine Art at Emlyn Square: Swindon Open Studios

As part of Swindon Open Studios, Emlyn Square is hosting a vibrant lineup of local artists across two adjacent community venues: The Bakers and the Central Community Centre.

The Bakers

  • Featured Artist: The late John Webb (administered by Trevor Hancock)
  • Opening Times: 26–27 September, 10:30 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Location: 16 Emlyn Square, Swindon, SN1 5BN

Step into The Bakers to explore the artwork of the late John Webb. Working across watercolour, pen & ink, oils, and ceramics, Webb’s collection features historic in-situ depictions of Swindon’s Railway Workshops, alongside landscapes of the countryside, architecture, and coast. Fine art prints and greetings cards will be available for purchase.

Central Community Centre

  • Opening Times: 26–27 September, 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Location: Emlyn Square, Swindon, SN1 5BP

Just across the square, the Central Community Centre brings together three creative disciplines:

  • A Stitch In Time: Formed from the Health Hydro Knitters—the team behind the viral knitted swimsuits created for the reopening of Swindon’s historic Health Hydro—this sewing circle showcases heritage skills, tailoring, and community crafting.
  • Rhona Jack: Working in acrylics, watercolours, and clay, Rhona displays traditional watercolour landscapes, expressive animal paintings, and custom pet portraits. She teaches art for beginners and intermediates, with artwork hung internationally across the USA, Spain, and Poland. Giclée fine art prints will be available.
  • The Hat Stand Millinery: Founded by Nellie, who traded 15 years as a rock ‘n’ roll tour manager for hat blocks after the 2020 pandemic. Trained under legendary milliners, Nellie exhibits bespoke handcrafted hats and headwear.
