DESCRIPTION:Join our Volunteer Community!\n\n\n\n\nHelp Preserve Swindon’s Heritage!\nAre you passionate about history\, community and making a difference? \nSwindon Heritage Preservation is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to support our work\, from caring and sharing historical sites to supporting engaging community events for the public. Whether you can spare just a few hours or want to get involved regularly\, there’s a place for you in our volunteer team! \nSince 1995\, Swindon Heritage Preservation (formerly The Mechanics’ Institution Trust) has been working to conserve the precious stories and places that tell Swindon’s story. We are Swindon’s only building preservation trust\, combining social impact and community benefit with building restoration\, conservation and history. \nWe look after a number of heritage buildings located in Swindon’s historic Railway Village. These include: The Central Community Centre\, The Railway Village Museum\, The Bakers’ and The Cricketers’. We seek to maximise our social impact through the use of our buildings. You can learn more about our buildings here. \n\n\nWhat can Volunteers do?\nAs a volunteer\, you’ll have the chance to contribute in a variety of ways: \n\nMuseum & Conservation – Help maintain and share the historic collection of The Railway Village Museum. You can learn more about The Railway Village Museum here.\nGardening & Outdoor Work – Keep our sites looking beautiful and welcoming\, through the Global Gardeners Community! You view our Gardening Volunteers impact here on Instagram.\nArchiving & Research – Assist in preserving historical records.\nTour Guide & Events Support – Engage with visitors and bring history to life.\n\n* Training will be provided for all roles. \n\nJoin us for a Volunteer Information Session!\nFind out how you can get involved by attending one of our Volunteer Information Sessions: \n\nWednesday 23rd April – 1 PM\nWednesday 23rd April – 6 PM\nThursday 24th April – 1 PM\nThursday 24th April – 6 PM\n\nLocation: The Bakers’\, 16 Emlyn Square\, SN1 5BN (View on Google Maps here) \nDuration: The Volunteer Information Session will last for approximately 1 hour. \nThese informal sessions will introduce the different volunteer opportunities available and how you can contribute. No prior experience is needed – just enthusiasm and a passion for heritage! \n\nWhy Volunteer?\nBy joining our team\, you’ll: \n\nMeet like-minded people who care about history\, heritage and community.\nGain new skills and experience.\nMake a meaningful impact in preserving Swindon’s unique heritage.\nUse your existing skills and knowledge to benefit the local community.\nGain invaluable work experience.\n\n\nReady to get Involved?\nTo find out more\, attend a Volunteer Info Session! \n\nGetting to Emlyn Square\nThe Bakers’ is at 16 Emlyn Square (SN1 5BN) at the heart of Swindon’s Railway Village. You can view the location on Google Maps here. \nIt is easily accessible by train and bus\, with the Central Bus Station just a short walk away. There are several car parks available around the Railway Village\, but we recommend Bristol Street Car Park for it’s proximity to Emlyn Square.
